Daily Ponderings: God Hath Prepared

1 Corinthians 2:9
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

I need to look and listen and open my heart to receive his promptings, diligently obey them to show my love, and thank him for the blessings he rewards me with as a result of me qualifying for them.

And a word about qualifying for blessings:

In a Reddit thread about whether we "earn" or "qualify" for blessings (the consensus was "qualify"), I found the following comment enlightening:

Qualifying for blessings is like preparing for a marathon. If you want to grow stronger, you put the work in and you get the blessing of being able to run with greater strength because you had prepared. You did not earn that blessing. You received it because you had prepared yourself to receive it. We do not earn blessings. We prepare to receive them.

The activity that "qualifies" us for the blessing is not a particular kindness bestowed upon another person (that's actually the view of the "earned" school), but rather the act of opening our hearts that makes us willing to do our kindnesses that makes it so that he can put the blessing into us. He can't bless a closed heart.

It's not the act; it's not the willingness to do the act; it's the choosing to be willing to do the act.
